User Documentation of the W11 Migration Tool - PowerApps application

This documentation is intended exclusively for department representatives of HR, FAP, and IT. As per the decision made during the IT Steering Committee meeting on October 18th, 2023, the pilot is currently available only to the departments participating in the Microsoft Teams pilot project. Access to Microsoft Teams will be granted to department representatives upon request during Step 2 of this process. For those interested in learning more about the pilot project or how to participate, please refer to the detailed information available here.

This PowerApps application allows you to view the migration progress and data for each computer.

This tool is designed to help you make an informed decision about computers that are not compatible with Windows 11. This allows you to plan the actions you need to take to complete the migration smoothly.

How to Install

Step 1

  • Open Microsoft Teams

Step 2

  • Go to Applications and Request the PowerApps application. After validation, you can click on the Add button

Step 3

  • In the team [MSTEAMS] MS Windows 11 migration follow-up, add a new tab, and select PowerApps

  • In this new window, select All apps, W11Migration, and click on the Save button

Step 4

  • Now, you can click on the tab W11 Migration Tool. At this step, you can see the application

How to Use

In the search bar, you can enter:

  • Email
  • First/last name of the responsible user
  • Hostname of the computer
  • Compatibility (Upgrade Successfull applied, Upgrade Now,...view complete list here)
  • Suggested action (view list here)
  • Model
  • CPU
  • Update comment
  • MAC address

Filters

There are 5 drop-down menus for filtering devices:

  • Filter by departement
  • Filter by group
  • Filter by compatibility (hardware compatibility)
  • Advanced filter : Filter by specific status about the upgrade or device
  • Filter by laptop

To apply filter you must first select first a departement

Here are all the filter options: (blue text for compatibility filter, and orange for the advanced filter)

Statistics by Department/Group

When you select a departement (and a group) in the filter, you can see the stats about the migration and the compatibility. You have :

  • Number of computers running Windows 11 compared to the total number of compatible computers.
  • Number of compatible computers compared to the total number of computers.
  • Number of incompatible computers (requiring action by Oct 2025)
  • Number of compatible PCs on which the installation is not available (invalid package or upgrade refused)

Information About the Selected Device

The data shown on each devices includes:

Information about the upgrade :

  • RequestToNotUpgrade: If the user has asked not to update their computer
  • LocallyManaged: If the computer is locally managed
  • CompatibilityStatus: The compatibility status (hardware compatibility)
  • SuggestedAction: The suggested action (if the PC can be upgraded or must be replaced before October 2025)
  • ShortCompatibilityStatus: The short compatibility status, which takes into account the dependency package
  • FinalCompatibility: The final compatibility, displaying more information about the upgrade.
  • LastReport: The last report date, when CMF run the last time on the device

Information about the contact user :

  • ContactUserDep: The contact user's departement
  • ContactUserGrp: The contact user's group
  • ContactUser: The username of the contact user
  • Email: The email address of the contact user.
  • First name: The first name of the contact user.
  • Last name: The last name of the contact user.

Information about the responsible user (can be a group) :

  • RespUserDep: Responsible departement
  • RespUser: Responsible username

Information about the main user :

  • MainUserDep: Main user's departement
  • MainUser: Main user's username

Information about the device :

  • CPU model
  • Computer manufacturer and model
  • Operating System and version of this OS
  • IsLaptop
  • MAC Address

Input Field

You can add a custom comment on each device, by clicking on the pen, and entering some information in the updatecomment field. When you can write inside, the background color turns blue.

List of Compatibility States

All the possible states about compatibility:

  • Update your device to check compatibility
  • Warning: Windows 7 is no longer supported
  • Warning: Windows 7 and upgrade refused by user
  • Warning: Windows 8 is no longer supported
  • Compatibility check (GPO Windows 11 Readiness check) did not run
  • OpenStack VMs (compatibility pending)
  • Upgrade Sucessfull applied
  • Upgrade Sucessfull applied, but computer may no longer be compatible
  • Upgrade refused by user
  • Unknown compatibility and Upgrade refused by user
  • Upgrade to W11 in your locally-managed NSC
  • Upgrade in progress
  • Upgrade after cleared .... MB on the disk
  • Incompatible OS, upgrade after fixing OS issue
