Printing from macOS

You can install printers using AddCernPrinter.app. The application can be installed from the Print Service website or Self Service. The printers can be added and interacted with only inside the CERN's network.

Adding printer manually

Printers can be manually added in System Settings -> Printers & Scanners panel. Click on "Add Printer, Scanner or Fax ..." and then fill the options:

  • Address: printer.cern.ch
  • Queue: /printers/<printer name>
  • Name: printer name

Please note that if you install the printer this way, the driver used will be a generic one. This means that the printer may be lacking special features e.g. color printing or finishing options.

Removing printer

Printers can be removed in System Settings -> Printers & Scanners panel. Right-click on the printer you want to remove and select the "Remove printer ..." option.

Secure Print (Canon printers)

Secure Print is a method to protect your printed document for being physically pick-up by another person. Your document will not be printed until you specify the PIN code you chose on the printer's built-in keypad. Only Canon printers offer this possibility as only them have a keypad.

This option also offers additional security, as your print job is automatically deleted after printing. Plus it saves paper by ensuring we only print what we really need – if you do not release your print job within 12 hours, it is automatically deleted (please note this delay is 4 hours on some smaller models).

You can find the details of how to use this functionality in KB0007091.
